Central Square Apple Festival Celebrates Fall in Upstate New York

There’s something magical about Upstate New York when the air starts to turn crisp and the apples turn red. While we mourn the end of long summer days, we celebrate with fall festivals and seasonal food & drink. Towns across the state host a plethora of special events, and Oswego County is no different. Autumn truly kicks off at the end of September with the Central Square Apple Festival. The celebration is two days filled with apple goodies, local arts & crafts, and community building.

The History of the Central Square Apple Festival

Central Square’s biggest festival dates back to the mid-80s, as the apple festival celebrates its 39th anniversary this year. Originally a quaint event – planned in less than two months – the festival now is an annual celebration that involves a full year of planning.

Hosted by the Hastings Lions Club, the Central Square Apple Festival is their biggest annual fundraiser. 100% of the profits go back to support the local community. This year over 180 vendors participated in the festival, marking the biggest show out yet!

In addition to browsing the booths and shopping amongst the local businesses, the event consists of two days filled with activities for everyone. Countless food vendors showcase their specialties alongside some seasonal apple goodies. Competitions crown Miss Apple Festival and other winners. Kids of all ages enjoy the amusement rides and animals. Marching bands and performance artists keep the crowds entertained.

Attending the Central Square Apple Festival

The Central Square Apple Festival is held on the last weekend of September every year, so you can mark your calendars early. At just $5 per carload, the event is budget-friendly for the whole family, attracting 20-25,000 guests each year. The festival is held at the Brewerton Speedway, where the racetrack is transformed into festival grounds.

When: September 28 from 9am til 6pm & September 29 from 9am til 4pm.
Where: Brewerton Speedway
What: Two days filled with food, activities, performances, and community.
Why: To raise money for local organizations in Oswego County.

Spring Fling Fundraiser

To keep the excitement going year-round, the Hastings Lions Club also hosts a Spring Fling fundraiser. The craft show takes place at the Central Square Middle School every April.
