Cozy Coffee Shops in Oswego County Offering the Perfect Cuppa

There’s something so charming about finding the perfect cup of coffee at a cozy cafe. And I’ve recently discovered so many new charming coffee shops in Oswego County! Each one has its own unique character and a delicious assortment of drinks and pastries. Turkish pastries. A coffee shop located in an old bank building. A cafe dedicated to both books and coffee. All that and more await you on your newest coffee adventures.

114 Reserve

Fulton

First up is 114 Reserve. This adorable cafe is located in an old bank building in Fulton, at 114 Oneida Street. Owned by friends Mikaela and Kayla, this cafe is exactly what you look for in a cozy cafe that you want to spend the day in, drinking coffee with your best friend.

The octagonal shaped side of the building has tall ceilings with full window walls. House plants, electric fireplaces, and comfy seating fill the space. The staff is incredibly friendly, and I was charmed by how they interacted with a differently-abled customer who was hanging out at the counter. And they even use the old bank teller window as a drive through!

As for the menu? Wow. I ordered one of their seasonal specials, the Hippity Hop Iced Latte. And yes, it tasted exactly like a carrot cake with cream cheese frosting! I also got a breakfast sandwich on a super-fresh croissant, and a honey cinnamon croissant to go. I’m still dreaming about it days later. Plus there are so many flavors for their lattes that I’ll just have to keep going back to try them all.

I love that all of the items in the cafe are sourced locally: Espresso from Utica Coffee. Cold brew from Recess Coffee. Drip coffee from Lake and River Roasters. Herbal tea from Blue Moon Apothecary. Pastries and baked goods from Boozey’s Biscotti, Breaking Bready, Sunshine & Wild Flour Bakery, and Geddes Bakery.

Books & Brew

Mexico

Books + coffee make for the perfect café! Introducing Books & Brew, the new café in Mexico, NY. Owned by Dani Maynes and her brother, Books & Brew opened in March and is a cozy combination of coffee shop and bookstore. The shop features a selection of used books alongside new books from local authors (including Fauved & “Naked” by Sarah Dulany-Gring and “The Girl in the Glass Coffin by Lee Ellen Hickey) and a handful of cozy items – think stickers and mug coozies.

In addition to coffee, the café offers baked goods from Breaking Bread Bakery and Flourish Bread Co. They host events including author talks and book-themed flash tattoos.

Coffee Connection

Oswego

Very few things are better than a great cup of coffee to start the day. Or enjoy in the afternoon. Or finish off dinner. Coffee all day long! Luckily, Coffee Connection in Oswego is serving out more coffee during more hours of the day. Tara Hoyt moved her beloved cafe to a bigger and better location in 2023. The cafe features a wide variety of brews, including unique daily specials on regular, flavored, decaf, and iced coffee.

Additionally, Crumb opened inside Coffee Connection in February 2024. This expanded the offerings at the cafe to include sandwiches, salads, pastas, and other dishes.

Khepera Coffee

Oswego

When Jessica Spano opened Khepera Coffee in Canal Commons in July 2019, she was making her dream come true. For a few years, she was proud to serve locals and visitors alike their morning coffees. But life had other plans and in the summer of 2022, café regular Michael Fochtman took the reins as the new owner.

The name “khepera” is Egyptian in origin, meaning ‘morning’ or ‘rising sun’, a perfectly apt name for a coffee shop. Michael has kept Khepera’s legacy, serving up a variety of signature drinks while partnering with local businesses. Like all of the coffee shops in Oswego and the surrounding area, community is at the heart of Khepera Coffee.

North Shore Coffee & Tea Company

Bernhard’s Bay

I stumbled across this adorable café in Bernhard’s Bay after an overnight stay at nearby Vanderkamp. The cheerful yellow exterior of North Shore Coffee & Tea Company is so inviting, we had to stop in for breakfast. Inside the historic building, I was rather surprised to find shelves lines with products from local artisans. Pottery, jams and jellies, toys, dishes, and more adorn the shelves left behind from the former country store. The middle of the room features a fireplace and a selection of comfortable seating.

To the right is the café itself. Owned by the delightful Marcy Korczakowski, North Shore is named after its location on the northern shore of Oneida Lake. Inside the café, Marcy offers a variety of house-roasted coffees and loose leaf teas. Additionally, her menu has a quaint selection of oatmeal, yogurt with granola, and breakfast sandwiches. A pastry case filled with local baked goods completes the offerings.

Tatlim Bakery

Oswego

There aren’t many places in Central New York where you can get authentic Turkish coffee. But Tatlim Bakery is one of them! The Turkish-European bakery is one of the most recent additions to the Oswego food scene, but it is quickly becoming a much-loved local culinary spot. Sevgi Evren Familo emigrated to the US from Turkey and is now sharing her passion for her native cuisine with fellow New Yorkers. Visit the bakery yourself to try some of her perfected macarons, baklava, cream puffs, eclairs, and more.
