Dog-Friendly Places in Syracuse to Visit With Your Pup
In a perfect world, we would be able to bring our dogs everywhere we go. But let’s admit, it’s just not practical. From allergies and fears to health and safety laws, sometimes we have to leave our pups behind. Don’t worry though, there are plenty of dog-friendly places in Syracuse that let you bring your furbabies along.
Please note that it is important to confirm that dogs are still allowed before bringing your dog to a private business in case any regulations have changed. And it goes without saying that your dog should be vaccinated, licensed, and well-behaved before you bring them somewhere public. Lastly, different rules apply to service animals.
Oh, and please clean up after your dog. The world thanks you.
Dog-Friendly Parks in Syracuse
Of course, bringing your dog along on your walks and hikes is a no-brainer. But there are actually some parks where dogs are not allowed, for one reason or another. For example, Watkins Glen does not allow dogs on the main trails. And you should never bring your dog to a wildlife refuge. Luckily, there are also some parks that are more catered to our canine friends than others.
Erie Canal
The Erie Canal stretches across much of New York State, and the trail is friendly to all travelers. Hikers, bikers, dogs, horses… Everyone is welcome along the canal.
Green Lakes State Park
Green Lakes is a favorite spot year-round, with or without a canine companion. Several trails surround the lakes and are great for hiking. Please note that dogs are not allowed on the beach during the summer, but they can be on the trails.

Jamesville Off-Leash Dog Park
If you’re looking for an open area to allow your dog to wander off-leash, head over to Jamesville Beach Park. There is a section of the park that is dedicated to visiting pups.
Wegmans Good Dog Park
Probably the most popular dog park in the Syracuse area, Wegmans Good Dog Park is located on the northern end of Onondaga Lake Park. There are two enclosed areas, one for small dogs (under 25 pounds) and one for larger breeds. Since this is an off-leash park, it is incredibly important that your dog is friendly with all other dogs. Proof of license is required to visit. Frequent visitors may get their dog a Wegmans Good Dog Park tag for their collars every year at the Griffin Visitor Center.

Dog-Friendly Breweries in Syracuse
Many people think that all breweries are dog-friendly, but that’s not quite the case. Per New York State Law, “Companion animals are not permitted in indoor dining or food preparation areas.” Therefore, any breweries that serve their own food cannot allow dogs inside. About half of the breweries in Syracuse don’t serve food, so you can bring your dogs to these breweries while enjoying a pint.
Buried Acorn
At Buried Acorn, your dog can enjoy saying hello to all your fellow craft beer lovers both inside and out. Plus they often partner with Helping Hounds Dog Rescue to host events and raise money for the pups.
Freight Yard Brewing
While dogs are always allowed in the biergarten at Freight Yard, they prefer that dogs only come inside if they are very well-behaved and the bar isn’t too crowded.
Full Boar Craft Brewery
The owners of Full Boar love their dog customers so much that they keep a container of dog biscuits behind the bar. Plus they had a farewell celebration to a mug club member’s dog who had cancer. And if you look at the hashtag #dogsoffullboar, you’ll see that they feature their canine customers on their social media fairly often. So yes, please bring your dog to Full Boar.
Local 315 Brewing Company
Indoor or outdoor, Local 315 is happy to have you bring your dog with you to enjoy a beer on the farm.
Skaneateles Brewery
Not only can you bring your dog with you when you visit Skaneateles Brewery, there are some great trails nearby. It’s the perfect place to go for a walk before or after you enjoy a beer from the dog-friendly brewery.
Willow Rock Brewing Company
Kevin, Rockney, and all the bartenders love their dog friends, so bring your pup along with you to Willow Rock. Just make sure they are leashed and don’t bring them into the room where the taps are.
WT Brews
Feel free to bring your pup with you to WT Brews in Baldwinsville. Kit was a regular when we did weekly trivia there a few years back. And if you’re lucky, the bartender’s adorable puppy Norm will be there.
Love breweries and love traveling?
Take your pup on an overnight visit at 42 North Brewing in East Aurora, NY.
Dog-Friendly Businesses in Syracuse
Since Syracuse is glorious in the summer, many restaurants open up outdoor dining areas. With the open air spaces, some restaurants allow dogs in these areas – as long as they are accessible without going through the restaurant. Just always be sure to confirm with the restaurant before showing up with Fido.
Beast + Brie
Charcuterie boards are all the rage these days. So why should dogs be left out of the fun? Celebrate your dog’s birthday or Gotcha Day with a barkuterie board from Beast + Brie. Trust me, they will love it.
Crazy Daisies
In the mood for some fantastic locally sourced food, cocktails, and plant shopping, but want to bring your dog along for the ride? Head over to Crazy Daisies! With plenty of outdoor seating – and an outdoor bar – it’s the perfect spot for a day out with your pooch. Just remember, dogs aren’t allowed inside the café or on the porch.
Don’t forget, pups love puppacinos from Starbucks and munchkins from Dunkin’. And ice cream is always a favorite!
Dog-Friendly Stores in Syracuse
It’s a given that dogs are allowed inside pet stores. That’s their favorite place to go to pick out their new toys! Plus everyone knows that home improvement stores are dog friendly. That’s why I bring my pups with me to Home Depot and Lowe’s when I am renovating. But did you know that there are other stores in Syracuse where you can bring your dog?
The Art Store
Believe it or not, one of the best art stores in Syracuse allows dogs! So next time you’re shopping for an art project, bring your pup to The Art Store. Don’t forget to ask for a treat at the counter.
Gander RV & Camping World
You bring your dog camping, why not bring them shopping for camping gear? At Gander RV and Camping World, you can do just that.

Dog-Friendly Events in Syracuse
Great events aren’t just for humans! There are so many dog lovers in Syracuse that multiple businesses host annual events where they invite dogs. Yes, I’m serious.
Bark in the Park
Theme nights are not unusual for baseball games, so why not make one for dogs? The Bark at the Park events with the Syracuse Mets has become so popular that there are three planned for 2022. The games on April 18, May 16, and September 12 all invite your well-behaved dogs to the stadium AND raise money for North Shore Animal League America.
Helping Hounds Dog Rescue Fundraisers
One of the biggest dog rescues in Syracuse, Helping Hounds, hosts multiple events throughout the year to raise money for the shelter. Their most popular events are Pumpkin & Pooches in October and Photos with Santa in December. Dogs are obviously welcome to both, and the volunteers at the shelter love to see how their former fosters are doing!
Pucks for Paws
Baseball isn’t the only sport that loves dogs. The Syracuse Crunch also hosts occasional Pucks for Paws events. So dress up your pup and bring them to the hockey rink to enjoy a game and raise money for a great cause.
