Wineries in Oswego County You Should Visit this Summer

It’s no secret that the Finger Lakes area is one of the best wine regions. In the world. So it should come as no surprise that just a few miles away the wineries in Oswego County are making some delicious wines as well. Sprawling across the land between Lake Ontario and Oneida Lake are a few wineries worth checking out this summer.

Ashley Lynn Winery

The winery renowned for its wine slushies at the New York State Fair actually originated in Oswego County. In fact, Hurlbut Orchards dates back nearly a century to 1929. The family specialized in harvesting McIntosh and Cortland apples before shifting the focus to producing wine several decades ago. Ashley Lynn wines are known for being on the sweeter end of the scale, and often have strong fruit notes.

Ashley Lynn Winery originated within family-owned Leon’s Farm Stand, located along State Route 104 in Mexico, New York. Visitors to this location can sample wine while also browsing three greenhouses filled with flowers. Mulch, garden sculptures, and other planting necessities are also for sale there.

Now, Ashley Lynn wines can be found at the farm location in Mexico, the tasting room in Waterloo, and throughout bars and restaurants in Central New York. And they truly shine every summer at the fair with multiple booths located across the fairgrounds.

Grace Tyler Estate Winery

Located along the northern shore of Oneida Lake, Grace Tyler Estate Winery was established in 2018. Owners Elizabeth and Richard Hamilton purchased the property in 2012, and planted Marquette and Diamond grape vines right away. After waiting patiently for 5 years, their first harvest came in 2017. since then, they have added Brianna vines, another cold-weather hybrid grape, to the mix.

When building the winery, the Hamiltons were pretty resourceful. The main building was constructed from aspen trees that were taken down on the property. And the bar? That’s from a neighbor’s maple tree that was removed for being a hazard.

Not only is Grace Tyler Estate Winery dog-friendly, they have dogs waiting to greet you when you arrive. The family’s chocolate labs are a signature feature of the winery. Originating with Bailey Boon (who has since passed) and then Annabelle and Ozzy, the pups are the official greeters at Grace Tyler.

Make the most of your winery visit by enjoying some local snacks. Charcuterie and popcorn are available for purchase alongside local beer and cider. Visit on a Friday night and enjoy live music.

Bella Fattoria Winery

While not open just yet, there will soon be a third winery in Oswego County. Bella Fattoria Winery is the creation of Bob & Tammy Cuyler. And while the pandemic slowed down their process of opening their winery in Hannibal, they still hope to be able to open this year. But fear not, you can still get their cider at Ontario Orchards in Oswego to tide you over while you wait. Their cider is made under the name “Country Pickins”.
